Using Online Guitar Lesson Apps

Image
It's important to practice something new everyday on guitar not just play things that are familiar. Also playing along with a metronome slowly and then increasing the speed a little bit at a time is key You can learn a new riff, lick, chord progression or scale. Or you can find a backing track on YouTube and play along with it. Using YouTube is a great place to find tutorials. But the issue for me is that it's a headache to hunt for the best most relevant videos. I do not like to waste time and focus searching - I want to spend my practice time wisely So I tend to like using lesson sites and apps like TrueFire or JamPlay. Paid lesson services like this have a more clutter free experience. You can find what you're looking for quickly from the best teachers and go through well planned lesson courses. I spent two years of my life during COVID just taking courses on JamPlay and I am a fan of the service Click here  to download free guitar lessons today to get started with a foc...

Daily Guitar Practice 100 Hour Rule

Image
There is a theory that in order to become a virtuoso in your instrument that you need to practice a total of 10,000 hours. That is a lot of hours and very intimidating to most people who want to get good at playing guitar for fun However the 100 hour rule is another philosophy that claims you can be better than 95% of the population if you practice something for 100 hours Click here  to book an online private guitar lesson today to get started with a focused practice plan That is only about 20 minutes a day for one year. This is a very realistic goal and you will be able to have very functional guitar skills in that time with which you can have a lot of fun I really like this 100 hour idea and I strive to practice new riffs and skills at least 20 minutes a day. One of my favorite things to do is record my practice as a video and post it to Instagram as a reel with tabs No matter how much you practice something when you go to record on audio or video you realize that you don't reall...

Introduction

Hi I'm Dan O'Connor, I started playing guitar when I was 13 years old by learning all the standard riffs everyone else does like Stairway to Heaven, Iron Man, Smoke on the Water, etc. I also got into singing and writing songs in my teens Then I went on to the Hartford Conservatory of Music and studied jazz guitar for 2 years. After that I went to the Hartt School of Music where I got a Bachelor's degree in music business  I learned the guitar fretboard inside out in college and studied music theory to an advanced level. I also took vocal lessons in school which helped improve my singing skills  I taught guitar in a music store while going to college as well. However I really did not enjoy teaching little kids. I might like teaching adults advanced guitar and music theory. Someday I may do that Click here  to book an online private guitar lesson today to get started with a focused practice plan In the 90s and 2000s I tried getting record and publishing deals as...

Starting Out Making Money with Music Online Again

Image
I'm starting this blog as a journey of making money doing music and photography online. I first began posting my daily guitar practice as reels to Instagram in January 2023 In the past year a few of my guitar tutorial reels have gone viral on Instagram taking me from about a thousand subscribers to almost 100k Click here  to book an online private guitar lesson today to get started with a focused practice plan In the past I had released music on Spotify and other streaming services. But for what those services pay it no longer seems worth my time I also had a website selling royalty free music called DanoSongs.com but now that type of music is more freely available and I stopped working on that project So now I'm looking into other ways to make money playing guitar, taking photos and making videos  I'm taking courses on Udemy which teach how to do paid collaborations. Now that I have a lot of Instagram followers this may be a way to bring in income
